Aside from his sonnets on tarot, Denvid enjoys writing sonnets for friends. Here are two double sonnets. The first was written as a marriage proposal (which was accepted, but the relationship ended before marriage) and the second is one written to a friend with the intent of saying, "I wish I could show you the beauty in your own soul that you seem unable to see."

Proposal of Marriage

Could it truly be that thou art alive?
Can I trust myself to awake and know
A dream as lovely as thee can survive
As more than a vision's sweet afterglow?
I would hope thou art not but fantasy;
Lonely, then, would be the life I follow
(And even lonelier, still, eternity)
When without thee, both seem void and hollow.
That thou art real--that thou are not from dreams
Should be all the good fortune I dare seek.
My hopes are beyond but such simple schemes
When thou givest life magic and mystique.
I've dreamed myriads of dreams of beauty
But none as beautiful as life with thee.

Can nobility be only for kings,
Castles, knights, and queens? Can it not be sought
More in the simple gifts of simple things
We do each day than in wars knights have fought?
When love binds two, as it does thee and me,
Family and child, warm hearth and healthy home
Built in love, are nobler than can be
Epic brave tales found in an ancient tome
Of all dreams I have and seek to make real
I wish to be under vows, strong and true,
That bind together those who love and feel
The special cherished ties thee and I do.
I will not love any as I do thee.
In love I ask then, "Wilt thee marry me?"

To a Friend of Mine

I wish I could show you who I have met.
When we get to know someone all too well
What we see can become rigid and set
And with one view of that person we dwell.
We limit ourselves in much the same way
And see within us every single flaw.
The best of us can be hidden away
Frozen in pain and waiting for a thaw.
We may hide behind humor or our work
And not see the Light that from us does shine.
We see in ourselves every tiny quirk
Instead of that which is truly divine.
I look at you and know just who you are
I see you glow with the Light of a star.

I wish I could show you the poise and charm
That makes you, in many ways like a rose.
You have the strength to survive winter's harm
And to grow again after the cold snows.
Your winter is over; I see you bloom—
In who you are and even in your face
Shines a light that can pierce the deepest gloom
Yet still has a rose petal's tender grace.
Like the soft scent that from a blossom flows
The Life and Light that, within you, is full,
Brightens other lives as it warmly glows
With a warmth both tender and beautiful.
You have the strength of the strongest metals
And the elegance of soft rose petals.
